Tannery management team says it will prove its case

Local residents in El Hormigón, near the La Fuente tannery’s location in the west of the country, have complained that poor waste management practice at the facility has led to a strong odour and have asked the ministry to close the tannery down.
Chief executive, René Altamirano, has told local media that La Fuente has recently invested $60,000 in equipment that he said would make its processes for separating solid and liquid effluent much more effective. “We have carried out our own audit and acknowledge that there were things we needed to improve. We are confident we can show the ministry that the steps we are taking will make a difference. Our operation presents no health hazard to local residents.”
