Big Brazilian packers score well in export markets

Brazil’s ministry of development, industry and external commerce (MDIC) has confirmed the export earnings of the country’s big packer firms for the first ten months of 2010.

The figures show that JBS earned $1.43 billion from exports over the ten-month period, an increase of 102.3% compared to the same period last year. Bertin, became part of the JBS group in September 2009, but its figures have been reported separately and show a fall of 34.7% to $630.4 million.

Other companies to feature include Seara Alimentos, acquired by Marfrig at the start of this year, achieved export earnings of $867 million, and Minerva with $837.6 million. These figures represent increases of 7.9% and 42.7% respectively.
