Local authorities in the Shandong province in eastern China have estimated the annual number of slaughtered cattle there could be as high as 18 million in the near future. The Binzhou area, located in the north of the province, has an established livestock farming industry which the authorities have suggested could be taken advantage of by the tanning and leather industry.
