New president for Acrimat

24/11/2010
The Association of livestock farmers in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso (Acrimat) has elected José João Bernardes as its next president. Mr Bernardes will take office for a period of three years on January 1.

In the role he will represent Mato Grosso's 35,000 livestock farmers, who together manage the country's largest herd, 27.3 million head. Mato Grosso is also Brazil's largest producer of, and second-biggest exporter of, beef.

After his election, Mr Bernardes said he would aim to garner the highest possible level of government support for the industry, build up unity among Acrimat members and encourage them to continue adding value and making the industry as sustainable as possible.
