Strong demand for US beef and pork

September export results were strong for US beef and pork, the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has reported.

Dan Halstrom, USMEF’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, said Japan, the Middle East and South Korea drove growth in the beef sector, while China, Central America and the ASEAN region (Southeast Asia) were the growth leaders in terms of pork trade.

Mr Halstrom also explained that while the weaker dollar has boosted the competitiveness of US meat overseas, it’s not the only factor driving export growth. He said that both beef and pork exports are rising even faster in value than in volume, which he said was indicative of strong demand.
