Tunisia: leather sector exports up by 15.9%

The National Leather and Shoe Centre (CNCC) of Tunisia has said that exports of leather and footwear from the North African country increased by 15.9% in the first nine months of this year, reaching almost $500 million.

Italy, France and Germany were the most important export markets with a combined share of 87.4 % of the total. Italy accounts for 48.6% of exports, France for 27% and Germany for 12%.

Imports of shoes and other leather-sector products also increased in the nine-month period, by 13.6% compared to the first nine months of 2009 to reach around $320 million.
