Leather producer opens retail outlet in former bank

Specialist leather producer Michael Hastings has expanded his operation to set up a retail outlet for leather and leathergoods in a former bank in Winchelsea, Victoria, Australia.

Mr Hastings started his business near the town in 1989, producing ostriches. To achieve maximum value from the birds, he later opened a tannery in Wangaratta and began to supply ostrich leather to Australian footwear brand RM Williams and specialist hat brand Jacarau Australia.

Opening the retail outlet, called The Vault to reflect its previous purpose, was an obvious next step. It sells bags and small leathergoods made from ostrich leather, as well as some from other exotic types of leather including crocodile, barramundi, kangaroo and emu.
