Uruguay: traceability gains acceptance

05/11/2010
The government of Uruguay has said demand is increasing for tags for its cattle traceability system. In the course of October, livestock farmers placed orders for 100,000 more tags than the same month last year, the government’s agency for the system said.

Uruguay’s aim is to have its entire cattle population, estimated at 11.2 million head, registered on the traceability system by July 2011. Already, the details of 8.6 million head of cattle have been captured.
