October figures confirm beef price rise

For the first time this year since January, Brazil’s exports grew at a faster rate than its imports in October. Compared to the same month in 2009, the value of exports were up by 37.1%, while the value of imports increased by 35.9%.

The country’s exports for the month had a total value of $18.3 billion. The value of imported goods coming into Brazil in October was $16.5 billion.

Among the products exported were 76,400 tonnes of beef, more or less flat in volume compared with the month of September. However, the value of beef exports in October was $345.1 million, which represents an increase of 7.7% compared to the month before.

In volume terms, beef exports were down by 7.3% compared to October 2009, but the combined value of this October’s shipments went up by 20.5%.
