Chinese footwear brand Belle has launched a competition for local designers who work with leather.

With low carbon, environmental sensitivity and human benefits as the themes, the company has invited designers across China to compete for a trophy it has called the Belle Public Welfare Cup and a cash prize or a study trip to Italy.

The company said almost 1,000 designers had registered to take part in the competition. Of the work that they submitted, 400 pieces came through qualifying and went on display at an industrial exhibition in Shenzhen.
