China allows Costa Rican leathergoods imports
According to reports, China has signed a new health protocol that allows Costa Rican leathergoods to enter the country.
Discussions about the protocol started last year, with China granting Costa Rican leathergoods temporary access to its growing luxury goods market.
In 2009, Costa Rica exported 61.8 tonnes of leather and leathergoods to China with an approximate value of $600,000. During the first half of 2010, exports grew to 1525.4 tonnes worth $3.2 million, with leathergoods becoming Costa Rica’s top export item to China.
