Finished leather drives Indian leather export growth
Indian leather exports grew 19.4% during the first six months of the financial year (April to September). Exports totalledo $1.7 billion compared with $1.4 billion during the corresponding period last year.
The breakdown showed that exports of finished leather rose 34.9% to $375.7 million from $278.47 million. Leather footwear exports grew 22.1% to $631.7 million from $517.51 million, while footwear component exports rose 1.4% to $121.2 million from 119.5 million and leather garment exports increased by 9.7% to $203.8 million from $185.8 million. Leathergoods exports grew 14.1% to $355.1 million from $311.3 million, saddlery and harness rose 20.3% to $23.8 million from $19.8 million and non-leather footwear exports were up 11.8% to $9.1 million from $8.2 million.
