Pakistan’s leather exports fall month-on-month

Pakistan's leather exports fell 6.6% to $82.7 million in September compared with $88.6 million in August. However, the country’s leather exports grew 14.4% compared with $77.4 million in September 2009, according the Federal Bureau of Statistics.
The breakdown showed that Pakistan exported finished leather worth $30.5 million (-5%), leathergoods worth $47.4 million (-2.7%) and footwear worth $4.9 million (-37%) compared with $20.8 million, $48.7 million and $7.9 million, respectively, in August.

However, leather exports for the first three month of the current financial year (July-September) rose 17.8% to $266.1 million compared with $225.9 million during the  same period last year.
During the three-month period, the country exported 6.8 million square-metres of finished worth $97.8 million compared with 4.7 million square-metres worth $64.7 million in July to September 2009. This represents a 43.8% rise in terms of quantity and 51% in terms of value.

Pakistan exported leathergoods worth $145.7 million, (including leather garments worth $115.7 million, leather gloves worth $27.2 million and other leathergoods worth $2.8 million) compared with $131.3 million during the corresponding period last year, a rise of 10.9%.

The country exported 2.9 million pairs of footwear worth $22.6 million (including leather footwear worth of $19.6 million, canvas footwear worth $0.1 million and other footwear worth $2.9 million) compared with 3.1 million pairs at $29.8 million during the prior-year period, a drop of 24.1%.
