Filipino leather sector thrives

Total manufacturing output in the Philippines increased in July compared with the same month last year, according to the national statistics office. It claims manufacturing growth was at double-digit rates for the seventh consecutive month.

Leather and leathergoods led the way with output rising 47% compared with 34.4% in June.

Other industries experiencing growth include furniture and fixtures (+35.6%) and chemical products (+7%).

Four manufacturing sectors experienced negative growth, including footwear and wearing apparel (-19.9%).
