Indonesian leather sector suffers

Government figures show that the Indonesian manufacturing sector grew 4.3% during the second quarter of the year compared with the first. The manufacturing industry contributed 1.1% to the country's 6.2% growth during the three-month period, the second highest below the trade, hotel and restaurant sectors, which contributed 1.6 percent to the economic growth.
However, while the non-oil and gas manufacturing sub-sector grew by 4.9% and the fertiliser, chemical and rubber products industries grew by 3.1%, the leather, footwear and textile industry recorded a 0.1% decline.

The manufacturing sector is expected to grow 4.9% this year; however, the leather, footwear and textile industry are expected to report further declines.
