New export zone to benefit Tanzanian leather sector
It is hoped that a new export processing zone (EPZ) in Tanzania will significantly increase exports of the country’s key products.
The EPZ is being built in the Kigoma region, in the northwest of the country. Officials expect the hub to improve links with neighbouring countries, particularly in Eastern Congo, which is heavily reliant on Tanzania for supplies. The first development at the site will cover seven million square-metres; however, when it is fully completed it will cover approximately 200 million square-metres of land.
The site will be particularly beneficial to exporters in the leathergoods, furniture, textile and garment, fish, cement, juice and soft drinks industries.
