USHSLA update on US-Mexico hide export regulations
The United States Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA) has revealed that the Mexican government has granted a delay of implementation of new regulations relating to US hide imports and an additional extension until October 25. It hopes that discussions regarding the revised requirements to ship hides from the US to Mexico will be resolved by this time.
Hides may be shipped under the old certification language until the new regulations have been finalised and implemented.
On July 15, the Mexican Department of Agriculture (SAGARPA/SENASICA) posted the revised requirements on its website. The Mexican government also included an additional fumigation requirement asking that hides be fumigated at the point of export.
USHSLA has been working with the USDA to have this fumigation requirement either removed or revised. It is also hoping for a revision of the brine curing time.
