Steady growth for Saudi Arabia's leather industry
According to industry experts, Saudi Arabia’s leather industry has continued to grow over the last seven years, despite the economic downturn.
The Saudi Monetary Agency reports that there are now 47 leather production units in the country compared with 42 in 2000. The industry currently employs just over 5,000 workers and now attracts foreign investment worth approximately 658 million riyals ($175.4 million) per year.
The country specialises in producing leathergoods such as bags, gloves, belts and leather slippers.
