The Uganda Meat Producers Union has built a new veterinary centre in the city of Luweero to serve the needs of cattle farmers in eight central districts of the African country.

The centre, funded by the Ugandan and the Norwegian governments, will serve farmers in Luweero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Masindi, Hoima, Buliisa, Kiboga and Mityana districts.

Norwegian funding will also go into a new abattoir in the area to which farmers from Nakasongola, Luweero and Nakaseke districts will be able to sell their livestock. The abattoir will have a slaughter capacity of 5,000 head of cattle a month.
