Tongxiang to tackle leather shoe quality

27/09/2010
Tongxiang City in the northern Chinese province of Zhejiang is the latest location in China to launch a plan to improve the quality of the leather shoes its manufacturers are producing.

There are believed to 550 producers in the city, which is far from large by Chinese standards, with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Clearly, some of these operators are small. The
Tongxiang authorities believe they can boost the local footwear industry by encouraging producers to focus on quality and on brand-building and they have promised to work with manufacturers on these two issues.
