Tanneries du Puy has a future

Prominent French tanning group Les Tanneries du Puy, which went into administration in April, still has a future, according to a union leader who represents members of the workforce.

A court hearing in Le Puy-en-Velay in mid-September secured an extra six months for the business owners to put together a refinancing package for the business.

In a closed-door session, shareholders' representatives presented five proposals they have received for taking the Les Tanneries du Puy forward. The court agreed to allow more time for shareholders to consider the proposals and choose the best offer.

Work at the tannery has continued and local media have said the company's order book is healthy, although a large amount of certainty remains among the workforce. However, on leaving the September court hearing, union leader Sébastien Delpieu, said: "This business has a future."
