Positive vibe at Micam
Micam opened its doors on September 19 and has provided space for 1,592 exhibitors. The event, which is being held in Milan and ends September 22, is hosting 585 exhibitors from overseas this time round. Visitors have travelled from more than 120 countries.
According to Vito Artioli, chairman of the Italian National Footwear Industry Association (ANCI), the Italian shoe sector is beginning to show signs of recovery and Micam continues to attract the top brands.
“Unlike some trade shows, our show has maintained and strengthened,” he says. “Many other European shows have had to resize and fine tune because of the market situation. Micam is able to put shoemakers at the forefront of the action and to really promote them.”
He added: “My intuition tells me that the last two days [September 19 and 20] were much more successful than at previous editions.”
The five best represented overseas countries at this edition are Spain, Portugal, the UK, France and Brazil. However, the emerging economies are having an increasingly significant influence. Exhibitors from Morocco, India, Mexico, Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia are growing in number and for the first time ever an Ethiopian company presented its latest looks at the show.
The next editions will take place on March 6-9 and September 18-21, 2011.
