A few places remain on a leather course being run jointly by research and testing agency SATRA and specialist leather training consultancy Leather Wise next month. The event will take place in Northampton and Kettering on October 19 and 20.

The course is aimed at manufacturers, sourcing companies and retailers of all types of footwear, leathergoods, garments, accessories and upholstery. The organisers say it will be ideal for newly appointed, as well as, more experienced technologists and buyers. Each delegate will receive course material and a leather identification kit to take away.

Day one, hosted by Leather Wise in Northampton, will focus on understanding, making and using leather. There will be sessions examining sourcing raw materials and the production of leather.

Day two, hosted by SATRA in Kettering, will concentrate on the selection and use of leather and will include sessions on chemical testing and environmental issues.
