Good start to fiscal year for leather industry in Bangladesh

Bangladesh's export promotion bureau (EPB) has reported that the country's leather sector exports grew by 42.9% to $53.5 million in the month of July 2010, the first month of the current financial year. 

The value of leather sector exports for the same month last year was $37.4 million.

Exports of finished leather in July 2010 were worth $24 million from $14.8 million in last year, growth of 62.6%. For leather footwear, the growth was 23.9% to a total value of $26.3 million. The steepest growth of all was in exports of Bangladesh-made leathergoods, which recorded a value of $21.2 million, up by 124.5% to $3.2 million.
