China plans quality blacklist for poor manufacturers

China's ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) has said it will publish a blacklist of companies manufacturing poor-quality goods. The ministry wants to encourage enterprises to produce high-quality products as part of an effort to enhance the image of ‘made in China’.

The minister,
Li Yizhong, said the proposed blacklist would make public the names of firms breaching quality-related regulations, while companies with a good quality record could look forward to increased funding support.

Mr Li made the announcement at a business forum in Beijing at the start of September. At the event, 156 Chinese firms signed a written proposal promising to make quality products for the world and called upon their peers in China to raise the quality of industrial products.
