The government of Sri Lanka has invested nearly $900,000 in a new leathergoods factory in the village of Vadamarachchi.

The village was the scene of fighting during the recent internal conflict in Sri Lanka. A programme is now in place to bring economic investment and jobs to some of the most affected parts of the country.

An extensive programme of removing landmines from the area is complete, leaving the way clear for investments such as the new leathergoods factory under the Mahinda Chinthana: Rekiya Bihidora Programme.
