Clariant launches solvent-free finishing product

31/08/2010

Specialty chemicals company Clariant has launched a solvent-free alternative to nitro cellulose (NC) emulsions.

Aqualen Top IL is an aqueous intermediate lacquer, developed to substitute solvent-containing emulsion lacquers. It is easy to use and can be applied in the same way as standard NC-emulsion lacquers, which means it eliminates solvents from the air and removes the solvent smell from the leather. NMP-free with very low VOC levels, the new product reduces emissions in tanneries.

Aqualen Top IL is applied onto the base coat to eliminate tackiness when piling, milling or embossing the leather. It is mainly used for furniture and automotive leathers.
