Vietnam: leather shoe exports to thrive in 2010
According to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso), the country’s shoe sector looks set to perform well in 2010. Shoe exports are set to total $5.4 billion by the end of the year compared with $4.1 billion in 2009. Export for the first seven months of the year are up 15.3% year-on-year at $2.8 billion.
Lefaso chairman, Nguyen Duc Thuan, more than 500 leather shoe manufacturers in the country say they are confident that the sector will report record figures this year. The industry employs around 650,000 workers. Its main export markets include Japan and the US.
