French fashion house Hermes has posted a 55.2% jump in first-half net profit, lifted by improved demand for luxury goods. The company believes full-year sales could grow by as much as 12%.

The leathergoods and hand-stitched silk specialist recorded first-half net profit of EUR194.6 million compared with EUR125.4 million during the same period a year ago. Sales rose 23% to EUR1.07 billion, driven by higher demand for its classic leather handbags and silk scarves during the second quarter.
