Argentina: volume down, value up for Marfrig

27/08/2010
The Argentinean branch of Brazilian packer group Marfrig has reported a fall of 35% in the volume of beef exports in the second quarter of 2010. The Argentinean government has imposed restrictions on beef exports to keep domestic prices down.

In spite of this, the value of Marfrig's exports from Argentina in the second quarter of 2010 went up by 9.4%. This is because the average export sales price for its Argentinean beef has gone up by 68% over the period, from $7,363 per tonne to $12,400 now.
