Suspected anthrax cases in Bangladesh
According to reports, a number of people have experienced blisters and lesions after handling meat and raw hides at a tannery in Sirajganj, Bangladesh.
Officials from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) have visited the area and have collected blood samples from the sufferers amid rumours that anthrax could be the cause. It will take a week to uncover the results and around 39 people are believed to have been affected.
Reports suggest that any hides that might have been infected have been already buried and medication has been given to people displaying symptoms.
The disease was also discovered in Pabna, Dhaka and other parts of the country earlier this year, with around 100 people affected.
