Uruguay: beef consumption remains high
Consumption of beef in Uruguay continues to grow despite rising prices, according to the National Meat Institute (INAC).
The institute is currently a series of audits for all the butchers in the country’s capital, Montevideo, to check food safety conditions. The audits started in July and will end in November.
"The research will quantify the situation and detect major problems. When you do an audit, it gives a better vision of what will be the problems and how to deal with them," said spokesperson Gabriel Costa. Mr Costa said beef consumption was still growing and that pork consumption was also rising sharply.
