Chinese leather production up 25%

According to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), industrial output value for the country’s leather sector rose 26% to 58.3 billion yuan ($8.6 billion) during the first half of the year.
Production volume for light leather also increased by 26% between January and June to 390 million square-metres.

The sector’s exports grew 25% in value to $22.8 billion compared with a 7% decline during the first half of 2009.

China imported 39.8% more leather and fur products during the first half, with imports totalling $2.9 billion.
