According to a report in The Times of India, water samples were collected during raids on three tanneries in Jajmau, a suburb of Kanpur, on August 3.

The raids were carried out by officials from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, which also conducted random checks on five other tanneries in the area.

Findings from the raids relating to effluent discharge and treatment plants will be presented at a court hearing on August 13.  According to the newspaper, the three tanneries are Upper India, Crown Tanning and Imperial Leather. Two of the three were reportedly found closed when the raids took place, although it is not clear which two.
