Ministry makes tannery pollution control announcement

China’s ministry for environmental protection has announced special measures to look at pollution control in the tanning sector across the country.

The China Leather Industry Association said the ministry had made the announcement in mid-July. The association said it expected further announcements on this subject in the coming weeks.

The ministry is expected to release the names of tanneries that have to take further steps to improve on waste management before giving them official approval. It will carry out inspections to verify tanneries’ performance in this regard.
