Official figures show that cattle numbers in feedlots in Australia increased by 11% during the second quarter of the year.

Numbers increased to 790,772 at the end of the quarter compared with 711,198 three months earlier, Meat & Livestock Australia has reported.

Demand from packers for feedlot cattle increased after rainfall in eastern parts of Australia revived pasture growth and encouraged livestock farmers to hold back on sending cattle to slaughter.
