Australia: beef production up in May, but short of long-term average

20/07/2010
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released figures for the country’s beef production for the month of May.

Packers across Australia produced 189,578 tonnes of beef that month, an increase of 3.2% compared to May 2009.

Nevertheless, the figure is lower than the monthly average over the last five years in Australia, which stands at 193,730 tonnes. It is also worth noting that May is traditionally a month of high levels of beef production in Australia as livestock farmers prepare for the winter months.
