Special belt goes to Oosthuizen

South African golfer Louis Oosthuizen was the winner at the 150th Open, held this year at the home of golf, St Andrews.

As well as the traditional Claret Jug trophy, the winner this year received a replica of the original prize, a red leather belt.

The Scottish Leather Group was commissioned by tournament organisers the R & A to replicate the original leather before a local craftsman constructed the belt, which Louis Oosthuizen put round his waist to pose for victory photographs.

The golfer’s home town has strong leather industry connections. He is from Mossel Bay, also home to the South Cape Ostrich Tannery, runner-up for the award of Tannery of the Year for Africa last year.
