Brazilian packer closes its doors

Following Grupo Frialto’s entry into administration at the end of May, another packer firm in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso is in trouble.

Frigorifico Pantanal has temporarily closed its three abattoirs in the state, which, together, slaughtered 1,500 head of cattle a day.

Local media sources have suggested that, while packers and livestock farmers in the region have, for the most part, a good relationship, many smaller packer firms are running into cash flow problems owing to the reluctance among some retail groups to pay their suppliers in full and on time.
