Brazilian exporters of hides, skins and leather brought in revenues of $879.6 million in the first six months of 2010, an increase of 78% on the first half of 2009.

The Brazilian Tannery Association (CICB) announced the figures after putting together data from the ministry of industry, development and external trade. CICB president, Wolfgang Goerlich, commented: “The industry in Brazil has performed well over the period, in spite of the new finance problems that have occurred in international markets, especially in the European Union.”
