Good first quarter for Burberry
13/07/2010
The company said at the end of its previous business year that “large leathergoods” (principally handbags) would definitely be one of its “key poduct categories” in 2010–11, having been its fastest growing category in 2009-2010. The company said it would also carry out further product development in shoes.
Commenting on the latest results, chief executive, Angela Ahrendts, said: “With double-digit sales growth in both retail and wholesale, Burberry has delivered a strong start to the year. We plan to open between 20 and 30 stores in the current financial year, predominantly in the Americas and Asia Pacific.”
A plan not to renew leathergoods licences to partners in Japan is still in place. Burberry has also repeated its commitment to removing local collections from its Spanish stores, which will offer global collections from autumn-winter 2010 onwards.
