Li & Fung buys US leather company

US designer and distributor of fashion accessories Cipriani Accessories and its affiliate, the Max Leather Group, have been acquired by Hong Kong-based consumer goods company Li & Fung.

The acquisition is one of three Li & Fung has carried out in the past two months, spending a total of $140 million in cash initially. The other two companies it has acquired are both based in Hong Kong, health and beauty company The Jackel Group and denim clothing company HTP Group.

The Max Leather Group designs belts and small leathergoods. Li & Fung has said it wants to increase its fashion accessories business.
