Tourism boost for Turkish leather garment brand

Turkish firm Kircilar Leather Garment Company has spoken of the important contribution summer visitors to the country make to its business.

About 24 million tourists visited Turkey in 2009. These tourists mainly came in the summer to enjoy the sun, sea and food and to visit historical sites. But large numbers of people are also keen on buying genuine leather products during their stay.

Kircilar has said around 2 million overseas tourists visit the 16 retail shops it runs in a variety of tourist destinations around Turkey every year.

Company spokesperson, Berna Asir, has told local media: "We have customers from all nations, so we are forced to produce different collections for different countries. The leather type, quality, model, pattern and so on change according to different nationalities. We display goods for tourists from, say, Germany and Japan on separate stands and organise live fashion shows for each group."

The company selects and buys most of its leather from domestic tanneries (while also importing from Italy and Pakistan) and prepares the ready-to-wear garments at a production facility it runs in Bursa.
