Swift Australia’s Rockdale acquisition delayed

30/06/2010

Swift Australia, a subsidiary of Brazil-based meat company JBS Friboi announced in March that it had reached an in-principle agreement to buy the Rockdale feedlot in southern New South Wales.

However, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has delayed its decision to approve the buyout as it says further investigations are necessary.

Swift has until July 6 to respond to the concerns the ACCC has and a decision is expecting to be announced on July 22.

The Rockdale feedlot is the second largest cattle feedlot in Australia with a licensed capacity of 53,333 head and a 600-head a day export processing facility. It would bring Swift’s total capacity in the country to around 174,000 head, representing approximately 15% of total national capacity.
