Portugal and the Bahamas to increase cooperation

The Bahamas and Portugal are in talks about improving links between the two nations in order to increase bilateral trade and to exchange knowledge in vital areas.

Governor-general of the Bahamas, Arthur Foulkes, said during a ceremony at Government House on June 24 that the two countries should focus on renewable energy, the transfer of technologies, the protection of the environment, climate change, robust regulation in financial services and maritime piracy.
The new Portuguese ambassador to the Bahamas, Joao de Vallera, who was also present agreed and said that steps were being taken to finalise agreements between the two countries.

Areas where bilateral trade could be increased include hides and skins, and finished leather, footwear, chemicals, clothing and agricultural products.
