Figures from Brazil’s department of foreign trade show that leather exports rose 79% to $714 million during the first five months of 2010.
The increase was largely driven by exports from São Paulo. Exports from this area rose 120% to $212.67 million during the five-month period, accounting for 30% of the country’s total leather exports.
The next biggest exporting region was Rio Grande do Sul, which recorded revenue of $176.4 million, up 60% year-on-year and accounting for 25% of total leather exports. Ceará was in third place with $ 70.2 million (up 66% with a 10% share).
