India records slight rise in leather prices
India has released its official wholesale price index for May. Wholesale commodity prices rose to 258.1 in May compared with 253.7 in April. The inflation rate stood at 10.16% compared with 9.59%.
The index for leather and leathergoods rose to 166 from 164.4 in April driven by a rise in prices of western-style footwear items.
The index for chemicals and chemical products was at 236.5, up from 232.8 the previous month, while the index for textiles was at 163.0, up from 158.2.
Figures were published by the country’s Press Information Bureau.
