Darling acquires Nebraska By-Products

Darling International, which turns used by-products from the beef, pork and poultry processing industries into products such as tallow and hides, has completed its acquisition of Lexington-based livestock rendering company Nebraska By-Products.

Nebraska By-Products’ owners, Lonny and Ann Johnson, are retiring after 31 years in the industry. The company opened a new state-of-the-art rendering facility in 2002 and added a protein blending facility in 2003. A third deadstock collection business was acquired in Kansas on 2005.
Darling chairman and chief executive officer, Randall Stuewe, said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to add this business to our portfolio and carry on Nebraska By-Products’ long tradition of outstanding service to farmers, ranchers, and feedlot operators in the Midwest.”
Darling’s products are primarily sold to agricultural, leather, oleo-chemical and bio-diesel manufacturers around the world.
