Acquisition rumours around Marfrig again

27/05/2010
Brazilian packer firm Marfrig is reported to be considering an offer to acquire rival firm Frialto, which went into administration on May 25.

An industry source told media in Mato Grosso, where Frialto has five processing units and two feedlots, that the president of Marfrig, Marcos Molina, had made an enquiry about acquiring the company.

Reports in Brazil say Fialto had sales of around US$660 million in 2009 and debts of $190 million. It has a slaughter capacity of around 4,000 head a day.

Rumours began circulating in March of a possible merger between Marfrig and another packer firm, Minerva.
