Peru’s bio-industry brought in $87 million in export revenue in 2009, with a tree used as a source of tanning agents for the international leather industry providing the biggest success story.
The external commerce ministry said in a press release that the tara tree (Caesalpinia spinosa) accounted for around 29% of the total.
